The name “third eye” comes from the pineal gland’s primary function of ‘letting in light and darkness,’ just as our two eyes do. This gland is the melatonin-secreting neuroendocrine organ containing light-sensitive cells that control the body's circadian rhythms - physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle. Physically, the Ajna Chakra supports our upper frontal sinuses, eyes, ears, and the outer layers of our brains.
The Sixth Chakra is the Third Eye Chakra. It is located right in the center of our foreheads. It deals with insight, intuition and wisdom self-awareness, mental and emotional clarity, and truth.

Some would posit that this scripture in the Bible refers to the Ajna Chakra: “The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” Matthew 6:22 (10). .
Sixth Chakra is Ajna which means order, command, and knowledge.. The color is indigo – dark blue/purplish. The seed sound is: AUM – pronounced OM. Chanting this mantra can dissolve fear, grief, nightmares, anxiety. The mudra or hand posture is Pranakriya 3 - the tips of the index finger touching the base of the thumbs and remaining fingers stretched forward, facing skyward on the thighs.
When the Ajna Chakra is out of balance the archetype associated with it is the "Intellectual" - relying solely on the rational mind. When it is functioning properly, the archetype is the "Intuitive." Intuition and transcendent consciousness take priority over ordinary logic when this sixth chakra center is open, giving the opportunity to integrate right and left hemispheres of the brain -"Intuition" and "Intellect." A closed or blocked sixth chakra will keep us stuck in analytical, busy, churn mode, which is exhausting and stressful. An open and strong sixth chakra will enable us to spend most of our time in relaxed flow mode and to tap into inner wisdom and intuition which is guidance from our own higher sacred self.
Questions to Ponder
Give some thought to the following questions as you meditate or engage in journaling: Am I open to all the possibilities that exist beyond my limited knowledge? Am I willing to see? Am I willing to know - guided by my higher sacred self?
This may be a starting point for accessing and activating the inner wisdom of the Ajna Chakra.
