Vishuddhi Chakra - Power of Authentic Communication

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

There is Power in Alignment with and Expression of Your Inner Knowing, Your Inner Truth

Vishuddhi means pure or purification. The throat chakra restores the energy by detoxifying the impurities from the body and mind. Unhealthy food and polluted air block the throat chakra. An active Vishuddhi Chakra contributes to the preservation of health. The color of Vishuddhi is bright blue.

The seed sound or bija mantra for Vishuddhi is Hang. The mudra or hand posture is Pranakriya 2, where the tips of the index fingers touch the midline of the thumbs and fingers are stretched forward palms up on your thighs.

It is associated with the Ether Element, referred to in Sanskrit as Akasha, or space, which is the most subtle of the elements -almost emptiness. It provides the capacity for stillness of the mind and an expansive outlook. Archetype when dysfunctional is the silent child, when balanced the communicator.

When the throat chakra is in balance we have the ability to communicate with clarity, speak our truth, openness to listening to others, being authentic and honest in our communication. A balanced throat chakra enables to not only communicate our own vision and choices but also serves as an open channel for communicating with the Divine, our higher sacred self, true self.

The throat chakra is also referred to as the Voice of the Divine. This is the place where the Divine and our Soul speak with each other. This is the place where we allow ourselves to be deeply honest and surrendered to the "Will of God" (insha Allah).

Vishuddhi Chakra also is the bridge between the heart and the mind. When sound is sent into the air through the throat its vibration can be felt not only in our ears, but throughout our whole body. It teaches us about the nature and power of the choices we make - communication between emotional and mental struggles (heart and mind).

The throat chakra affects our mouths, jaws, tongues, teeth, of course our throats, including the ability to swallow, and our larynx--our voice box.

An imbalanced throat chakra can result in a sore throat, thyroid issues, neck and shoulder aches, hearing sensitivities, jaw pain or TMJ. You may not know how to ask for what you need. Or you may be overly talkative for instance - gossiping. When Vishuddhi is not in balance, you may struggle with listening, be fearful of speaking up, or experience a general lack of connection.

Use your words thoughtfully. Think about "promises." How many time have you said, "I promise?" When a promise is spoken, it is a commitment. When that promise is kept, trust that is established. When it is broken, often trust is destroyed.

Our communication--our thoughts, the words we speak, and our beliefs, create our reality - our experience of the world around us! At this level of communication, our guidance will no longer come from someone else's belief systems... beliefs that have potentially limited us from creating and living, our own greatest potential.

THIS IS THE POWER OF THE 5TH CHAKRA

The late Dr. Maya Angelou, world renowned poet, beautifully articulated her perspective on the great power words contain. She said, " Words are things, I'm convinced. You must be careful about the words you use, or the words you allow to be used in your house."

I'm reminded of the scripture in the book of Matthew in the Bible reference to negative thoughts and feeling we hold inside, "Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man."

Communication is the connecting principle that makes all life possible--without communication, nothing can survive...when new baby birds are born, it is usually the one with the biggest voice that gets fed first!

And as human beings we see some of the same patterns. The human body must be in a constant state of communication with itself...the heart communicates by pumping the blood throughout the body--when we experience fear the heart beats faster...when we experience love and balance, it quiets into an open flowing unrestricted pattern.

Our hormones communicate with our cells, our brainwaves communicate with our muscles and tissues...communication is the essence of life.

So lets explore some ways of being that show up when our throat chakra is unbalanced or balanced...
